USPS Mailing Requirements by Envelope Size
The USPS letter machinability standard in DMM 201.3 requires four conditions met simultaneously.

Dimensions must fall between 3-1/2" by 5" minimum and 6-1/8" by 11-1/2" maximum. Thickness must fall between 0.007" and 0.25". Aspect ratio (length divided by height) must fall between 1.3 and 2.5. The piece must bend easily through automation equipment (the bendability standard).
